Contradicting Symbolism in Joseph Conrads quot;Heart of...
Joseph Conrad utilizes several important literary techniques throughout his story Heart of Darkness. One predominant method of his storytelling is the use of contrasting sensory imagery between black and white and altering the symbolism the colors entail. This theme is clearly prevalent when we read of Marlows childhood dreams and when comparing and contrasting the Africans, the Europeans, and the corruption of the ivory trade. Generally, Africa and Africans are described in terms of blackness, symbolic of darkness, evil, and corruption. On the other hand, Europe and Europeans are defined in terms of white, representative of innocence and purity. These images are essential in proving the dominant theme of good versus evilâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The Africans are portrayed as shadowy, shady figures blending into the background of the night, distinguishable only by their eyes. This is an early indication of the purity of the souls of the black slaves; although their bodies seem invisible in the night, their white remains undisguised. Marlows earliest glimpse of the corruption of the ivory trade is when he sees ...six black men...black rags were wound round their loins...with that complete, deathlike indifference of unhappy savages (81). Although Marlow appears to have some sense of compassion for the slaves, he still refers to them as savages. It is apparent that Marlow at first views the Africans as mere creatures, but he soon became compassionate as he observes their ...pain, abandonment, and despair (83). He immediately notices that ...they were dying slowly--it was very clear. They were not enemies...not criminals (83). This is an early turning point as Marlow begins to realize Africans are not the savages as they are typically stereotyped. Marlows first mention of European contact with the Africans explains how Captain Fresleven, Marlows predecessor with the ivory company, was the gentlest, quietest creature that ever walked on two legs (72), beat an African unmercifully with a stick. In this instance, the white captain appears to be mild and kind, yet the actions of Captain Fresleven are not consistent with the traditional

Skills and Leadership Category
Question: Write an essay on the skills and Leadership category. Answer: Listening is an important skill which helps a leader to lead a team effectively. Listening helps a leader to know about the different problems which an employee or customer feels about a product or the organization (Three Skills CEOs Need Most, 2016). Through proper listening, the leader can solve the problems. Observing is also another important skill which a leader should have to control different actions in an organization effectively. Observation helps a leader to come out with innovative ideas (Three Skills CEOs Need Most, 2016). Sensing is another skill in improving the quality of a leader. Sensing helps a leader to find out the positive and negative actions which are taking place around him or her. I lack in listening skills because often a miscommunication happens in listening. This is created because of wrong interpretation of the ideas. Often ideas are presented in a critical way. Therefore, the idea which someone is presenting gets changed and creates a problem. Along with these, I am an autocratic leader and who loves dictating others. I lack in observation because of the absence of good listening skills. I am a curious person who tries to observe the behavior of the different individuals and this often creates a problem. I always try to come up with innovative products but it often becomes unrealistic. This is because others do not think the same way as I think. Office colleagues have been able to identify my shortcomings through my different actions. Often I take decisions which are not compatible with the present scenario (Lafley, 2009). Moreover, my autocratic nature also creates dissatisfaction among other employees. This often makes them jealous of me and they in turn try to find my flaws. Research Paper on Financial Analysis Essay Example
Research Paper on Financial Analysis Essay Financial Analysis Research Paper The effective financial analysis is very important for the evaluation and the assessment of the market potential and the current position of a company. At the same time, to conduct an effective financial and market analysis it is necessary to take into consideration a variety of factors and measures including current ratio, debt ratio, profit margin, return on assets, and P/E ratio. The current ratio is a financial ratio with the help of which it is possible to define whether a company is able to pay its debts over the next 12 months or not. The current ratio compares a companyââ¬â¢s current assets to its current liabilities in such a way the current ratio may defined as follows: Current ratio= current assets/current liabilities*100 Basically, the current ratio is an indicator of a companyââ¬â¢s market liquidity and ability to meet short-term debt obligations. The acceptable current ratio may vary depending on an industry, but, in general, it is possible to estimate that if current liabilities do not exceed current assets than it is possible to state that a company has a relatively good short-term financial strength. The debt ratio is another important financial ratio with the help of which it is possible to measure the debt of a company and to assess the extent of the debt of a company may be compared to the total assets of the company. To put it more precisely, the debt ratio compares a companyââ¬â¢s total debt to its total assets. In such a way, it is possible to present the debt ration as follows: Debt Ration= Total debt/Total assets*100 In such a way, on defining the debt ratio, it is possible to determine the share of the debt of a company compared to its assets. Traditionally, the position of a company is viewed as good if the total debt is lower than total assets and the lower the debt is the better perspectives a company has. In contrast, if total debt exceeds total assets it is viewed as one of the markers of a serious problem than threatens to result in a profound financial crisis a company will suffer from. The profit margin is used to measure the profitability of a company. Basically, it is defined through the comparison of net income to net sales revenue and may be presented with the help of the following formula: Profit Margin= Net income/Net sales revenue*100 As a rule, the profit margin is used for the internal comparison. It should be pointed out that often profit margin are quite difficult to define precisely. In fact, the profit margin is an indicator of a companyââ¬â¢s pricing policies and its ability to control costs. The return on assets is the measure which shows how profitable a companyââ¬â¢s assets are in generating revenue. The return on assets is defined through the comparison of net income to total assets: Return on Assets= Net income/Total assets*100 Basically, the return on assets is an indicator of the capital intensity of a company, which depends on an industry, since company that require large initial investments will generally have lower return on assets. The P/E ratio of stock is a measure of a price paid for a share relative to the income or profit earned by a company per share. The P/E ratio may be defined as follows: P/E ratio= Price per share/Earnings per share With the help of P/E ratio it is possible to analyze marketââ¬â¢s stock valuation of a company and its shares relative to its income. Thus, it is possible to conclude that all the ratio and measures discussed above are very important and can provide a researcher with ample information on the financial situation in a company, though, it is still necessary to understand that in addition to these ratios it s also necessary to take into consideration the external situation in the market and a variety of other factors that can affect the performance of a company.

3 Problems with In-Line Lists
3 Problems with In-Line Lists 3 Problems with In-Line Lists 3 Problems with In-Line Lists By Mark Nichol An in-line list, one located within a sentence rather than formatted vertically below an explanatory phrase, sentence, or paragraph, may present an obstacle to comprehension in the following ways. Each sentence represents a different type of error, and the discussion that follows each statement explains the problem and a revision resolves it. 1. Organizations must notify affected individuals of a data breach when a reasonable person would conclude that the unauthorized access to, disclosure or loss of the information would be likely to result in serious harm to the individual or individuals.à In this sentence, there should be three distinct phrases consisting of a noun followed by a preposition, but disclosure is bereft of the latter; either allow it to share one, or give it its own: ââ¬Å"Organizations must notify affected individuals of a data breach when a reasonable person would conclude that the unauthorized access to or disclosure or loss of the information would be likely to result in serious harm to the individual or individualsâ⬠à or ââ¬Å"Organizations must notify affected individuals of a data breach when a reasonable person would conclude that the unauthorized access to, disclosure of, or loss of the information would be likely to result in serious harm to the individual or individuals.â⬠à 2. Typically, the best companies: are customer-focused; understand their value proposition; develop powerful and distinctive messaging; and listen well and act to improve their processes, products, and customer experience continuously. No colon or other punctuation mark is necessarily to signal that an in-line list follows the subject of the sentence; it is redundant to the verb(s) it precedes: ââ¬Å"Typically, the best companies are customer-focused; understand their value proposition; develop powerful and distinctive messaging; and listen well and act to improve their processes, products, and customer experience continuously.â⬠This is true as well for vertical lists, unless the introductory wording constitutes an independent clause- compare ââ¬Å"Typically, the best companies [vertical list follows]â⬠and ââ¬Å"Typically, the best companies demonstrate the following qualities: [vertical list follows].â⬠Note, too, that with the latter format, the list items would have to be revised to be complete sentences or to not begin with a verb. 3. When the style a publication adheres to calls for omitting the serial comma in simple lists (ââ¬Å"a, b and câ⬠), the serial comma must still be employed on occasion to clarify organization when a compound list item occurs: ââ¬Å"Its long list of supporters includes Kobe Bryant, swimmer Janet Evans, Venus and Serena Williams, and other sports royalty.â⬠(This rule applies for list forms ââ¬Å"a and b, c, and d,â⬠ââ¬Å"a, b and c, and d,â⬠or ââ¬Å"a, b, and c and d,â⬠as well as ââ¬Å"a and b, c and d, and eâ⬠and so on.) Evidence review - Essay Example The underlying causes of bowel dysfunction maybe primarily associated with the bowel inflammatory conditions or it may result from other secondary factors which include injuries to the spinal cord, as a result of the side effects of certain medications or due to certain endocrine disorders as well as improper diets and infectious agents. Proper diagnosis and management of bowel dysfunction is essential for the health of the patient. The treatment is related to the type and the extent of the disease (Friedman 1994,Top of Form Stein 2003). This paper will encompass the pathologies which are associated with bowel dysfunction and serve to explain their underlying reasons along with their diagnostic criteria and the most appropriate treatment according to the condition of the patient. According to the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, ââ¬Å"Bowel dysfunction refers to problems with the frequency, consistency and/or ability to control your bowel movements.â⬠(2007) This serves to explain the meaning that alterations in the motility of the small intestine and the normal bowel function can result in conditions which are referred to as bowel dysfunction. Constipation, diarrhoea and faecal incontinence are examples of bowel dysfunction. Constipation is a condition which may result due to a reduction in the bowel motility, hard faecal matter which cannot be expelled or if the amount of faecal matter is less than the amount which can be defecated. The defining factor of constipation can vary from one person to another as the bowel habits between different patients are variable. This is because a bowel frequency ranging from one per day to three per week is considered to be normal. If this frequency is reduced to less than one time in a period of three days, it can be referred to as constipation. If constipation exists for a long time, a more severe condition which is known as impaction may result. In this state the faecal matter is

However, as a result of the decreased revenue due to the economic downturn, some of the clients who are outside Cambridge may opt to cut on their traveling expenses. In this regard, it is essential for David and Angela to open more branches in cities such as Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, and Liverpool. In this way, TCL will reduce the costs incurred by its clients while traveling to Cambridge. It is also essential for the company to centralize its operations by ensuring that the Designers and Account Executives work in an established office. In this way, the company management will effectively monitor the performance of its employees. In addition, the TCL Company will emulate the culture of teamwork that is vital for the sustainable growth of any organization.Ã Currently, TCL adopts word-of-mouth as its primary promotion strategy. Even though this strategy has resulted in an increased number of customers, the current economic climate may negatively affect this strategy. This is based on the fact that some of the clients may lack financial ability to emulate the services offered by TCL thus making it difficult to communicate the significance of the services to other potential clients. This means that even though TCL has significantly relied on word-of-mouth in its promotion, the company should adopt social media to promote its products. In this way, it will effectively attract new customers especially those who regularly use social media during their buying process. In addition, the company should improve its website by allocating at least 15% of its revenue to ensure that it can easily communicate with its clients regardless of where they are located. It is also vital for TCL to collaborate with its clients in sponsoring social and cultural events in cities such as Bristol, Portsmouth among others. During such occasions, the company should fix ba nners that depict all the services it offers and their prices.
